How to Make a DIY Fluted Side Table in 5 Simple Steps
Today, I'm sharing a step-by-step guide on how to create a DIY fluted table base for your ten-foot table. This elegant design adds a touch of sophistication to your space. So, let's dive into the process and create something amazing together!
Tools and materials
- 2x4 boards
- Wood round (1 at the top, 1 at the bottom)
- Level
- Screws
- Half rounds
- Wood glue
- Brad nails
- Saw
- Screwdriver or drill
- Measuring tape
Steps
1. Preparing the Base Structure
Start by gathering your 2x4 boards. Measure and mark the lengths needed for your base structure. Use a saw to accurately cut the boards according to your measurements.
2. Attaching the Base to the Wood Rounds
Take your wood rounds – you'll need one for the top and one for the bottom. Position the 2x4 boards vertically, connecting them to the wood rounds. Ensure they're aligned properly. Attach the boards to the wood rounds using screws and a screwdriver or drill.
3. Ensuring Level Placement
Before securing the 2x4 pieces completely, it's crucial to make sure the base is level. Use a level tool to check for evenness. Adjust the base's position if needed, then tighten the screws to secure the 2x4s to the wood rounds securely.
4. Cutting the Half Rounds
Visit your local lumberyard to obtain the half rounds. These will form the beautiful fluted design on your table base. Measure and cut the half rounds to the appropriate sizes to fit snugly around the base structure.
5. Attaching the Half Rounds
Apply wood glue to the inner side of the half rounds. Gently press each half-round onto the base, ensuring they adhere well. For extra stability, secure the half rounds with brad nails. Continue this process until all the half rounds are attached evenly around the base.
