How to get cat pee smell out of couch?

by Dustin

My dear cat had an accident on my couch, leaving behind an unpleasant smell and unsightly stains. I'm determined to tackle this issue head-on, so I would greatly appreciate advice.

Has anyone successfully dealt with cat urine odor or cleaned cat pee from a sofa? I'm eager to learn about effective methods and remedies that have worked for you. Whether it's using commercial products or DIY solutions, I'm open to suggestions.

In particular, I'm interested in understanding how to eliminate the cat pee smell from my couch. What techniques have you used to neutralize the odor and make the couch fresh again? Additionally, what methods or products have helped you remove cat urine stains from furniture?

Much appreciated

In a pinch you can use distilled white household cleaning vinegar and water. Soak a sponge in the mixture and apply to the stained/smelly area and rub in round circles, refreshing the sponge often. If the smell persists, puchase an enzyme type cleaner from your big box store and apply as per directions.

  • I would have it professionally cleaned.

Maybe spray with Febreez for fabric or see if pet store has a remedy!

I would use Nature's Miracle. You can purchase it at any pet store or Walmart

Nature's Miracle has been my go to for this problem. The pee may have soaked into the foam of the cushions. Can they be removed and the covers cleaned and then treat the foam?

    Air drying helps.

You might want to consider a spray-on fabric/furniture protector, Scotchgard makes a good one.

Hi Dustin, hope this helps you out. Simply create a solution of equal parts white vinegar and cold water then spray it generously over the affected area and let sit. After some time has passed, scrub with a sponge in circular motions and blot the excess moisture with a dry cloth.

I use Nature's Miracle and it works great. If the urine has soaked into the cushions you could remove those and let them sit in the sun to help get the smell out but the good thing is that you can use Nature's Miracle on those also!

Hi Dustin: My ultimate go to is a product called Odormute. I've used it for many years with great success. It's an enzyme eater, and that's what you need to remove the smell. It's also environmentally safe an you can even use it on your pet if it gets skunked. I've even washed my clothes in it when my cats peed on them. Walmart used to carry it, some pet stores do and you can order it on line. It's made in the USA, win/win :)
