There's nothing cuter for Christmas than fake bakes. You can give me anything candy, and I'm a happy camper when it comes to my Christmas decor.

With that in mind, I created these cute cinnamon roll ornaments. Nothing better than a cinnamon roll on a cold night. Am I right? It's better than hot cocoa 😋!

Here you can see how I made these, as well as other treat ornaments. Let me know you're coming from Hometalk.

Cinnamon roll ornaments

Aren't they the most realistic/fake cinnamon rolls you've seen? The best part is you can display them on your tree, or pretty much everywhere without them going bad. Let's get to crafting!

Making the ornaments using Plaster of Paris and molds

1. Make the shapes

The first thing we must do is mix our Plaster of Paris with water. Make sure it has a pancake batter consistency. Then pour the Plaster on any round mold, like this chocolate Oreo one I'm using.

Let dry for 2 hours, de-mold, and let dry for 24 hours.

Making the swirls with foam clay

2. Make the swirls with foam clay

After they are dry, we're going to take some of our foam clay. Warm it in your hands, so it's easier to work with.

Roll it like a snake, using your hands. Then you're going to roll it on itself, to make a spiral on top of the Plaster round. Make sure you have a little leftover when you finish coiling it, that would make the cutest cinnamon roll side.

Let the clay dry for 24 hours.

Painting the shapes to look like dough

3. Paint

Now we start painting our rolls! Our base coat will be tan, to give it that baked dough look. Make sure to paint it completely, and let the paint dry.

Painting techniques

For the shade, or that cinnamon roll look, we're going to use the chestnut paint. With it you need to paint the indentations on the clay spiral. After you have done that, give the roll a light dry brush with that chestnut paint.

Applying translucent paint

To create the golden baked look, we just need some royal gold paint. This paint is translucent, so you'll see some of the chestnut, and tan after you have given the roll a light coat.

Gluing ribbon to the ornaments

4. Glue ribbon to the ornaments

It's time to turn these rolls into ornaments. You can skip this step if you'll be displaying these on a tiered tray, or somewhere else.

For this, I used some beautiful ribbon. I made a loop and glued it together, then I glued it to the back of the rolls.

Mixing cinnamon and Mod Podge

5. Add cinnamon

To make the cinnamon that comes out of the rolls when baked, we need some cinnamon, and Mod Podge. We're going to mix them together until we get a paste.

Adding real cinnamon to the faux cinnamon rolls

Take that cinnamon paste, and apply it to the indentations on the spiral. Use a popsicle stick, or a paintbrush to make sure you add enough of the cinnamon paste. Remember to add some to the side crease as well.

Making the glaze for the cinnamon roll ornaments

6. Make the glaze

If you like your cinnamon rolls without glaze, you can skip this step. But if you're like me, we need loads of that glaze on our cinnamon rolls.

For the glaze, mix your foam clay with some glue, or Mod Podge. Mix until you have a glaze consistency.

Adding the glaze with a popsicle stick

Using a popsicle stick apply your glaze any way you like. You can do lines or a good drip of that glaze.

Aren't these deliciously beautiful? I think they would make any candy Christmas tree or decor better.

Don't do what I did, these look too real... (I added a sugar cookie diffuser when I was making these, and I craved cinnamon rolls for weeks🤣)
