How to keep birds off deck railing
How to keep birds off deck railing?
Hello, wonderful forum members! I need your help with a little avian issue I'm experiencing. My deck railings seem to be a favorite landing spot for birds, and while I love their company, it's becoming a bit messy.
Can any of you share effective methods to keep birds off deck railings? I would greatly appreciate your friendly advice and practical suggestions.

You could also attach bird spikes to prevent from landing.
A inexpensive pinwheel that moves in the breeze may be enough to keep them away. Shiny aluminum foil tacked to the railing will also work if large enough to move in the breeze will deter the birds, though it doesn't look very nice.
They sell spike units that are narrow to fit on the railing in both rubber or plastic and metal check out amazon. They also carry scare tape with is a tape that is very reflective but the results aren't that promising.
These plastic strips have metal spikes on them that point upward, preventing the birds from landing. They will make birds feel uncomfortable and deter them from landing if you install them around the perimeter of your deck railings, roof, awnings, or other areas where they like to nest.
Try Windmills and Bunting that should do it!
Hi Rivka: There are a couple of things you can do. 1, put an owl figurine on the railing, but it needs to have a head or wings that move with the wind. Or. you can either tie or glue some fake snakes on the rail. Both seem to work quite well :)
We purchased several realistic looking rubber snakes. Then I placed them around using double stick Alien Tape. They stay away now. I first did it 2 years ago. Before that I tried the plastic owl statue which helped but you have to move it every few days or they will figure out it isn't a true predator bird. You can also use a hawk.
install a fake owl they are scared of owls
Thanks for all the advice everyone

Birds may find it difficult to land if bird spikes are erected on deck railings, roofs, awnings, or other bird-friendly areas. These strips have upward-facing spikes that deter birds from roosting, keeping your deck tidy and free of bird droppings.
Use scare devices like scarecrows, predator decoys (such as plastic owls or snakes), or motion-activated sound deterrents to startle birds away from your porch.Keep Birds off Porch
Also make sure no one is feeding them.
You can purchase bird spikes at a big box home improvement store. The ones I bought are clear plastic.
