I'm facing a puzzling issue with my pool, and I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on the matter. Lately, every time I turn on my pool light, it trips the breaker. It's becoming quite frustrating, and I'm not sure what steps to take to resolve this problem.

Has anyone experienced a situation where the pool light keeps tripping the breaker? If so, I would greatly appreciate your insights and guidance on how to troubleshoot and fix this issue.

Thank you

  • There could be lots of reasons for this, one is water in the fixture. I would call a licensed professional to deal with this problem.

Hi Tikva, did u install it yourself? Do a double check on all the wiring. This can be due to a small amount of water being inside your light fixture which the light may heat up and vaporize. This can then cause the GFCI to trip. GFCIs are also known to trip from extreme humidity. Be sure that the outlets that may be on the same GFCI circuit are covered to help prevent this.

Sounds like you are tripping your GFCI. It would be overloaded or damp. I would check the wiring and call a professional.

More likely water in the light fixture creating a short. You'd have to get into the light dry out the wiring. Check for damaged seals and replace.

If, after turning on the pool light switch, the GFCI trips, the most likely cause is water inside your light fixture. If the GFCI doesn't trip and the light is off, you probably have a burned-out bulb. In either case, you can now proceed with pulling your light fixture out of the pool.

  • Your breaker tripping could be due to poor wiring or a water leak into the light. Call an expert to assist you with this because there could be a number of causes and they are best qualified to handle the situation responsibly.

Check to see how many other things are running a the same time. It seems that they are most likely pulling more wattage then your breaker is set to handle. You might have to increase the breaker or split the items pulling at the same time.

Sounds like the wiring is loose, or damp has got to the wiring. An investigtion is required. If you are not an electrician, then leave it to the proffesionals, especially with water involved. Don't use the pool until problem is sorted.

I don't know everything about electricity so I would call an electrician. Better safe then sorry.
